The annual Scouting for Food drive for FISH (Friends in Sonoma Helping) is again underway throughout Sonoma Valley. Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA have distributed flyers onto hundreds of doors, hoping to come back to find them with food on Saturday, Nov. 21.
Community members wishing to participate can leave the flyer with non-perishable food stuffs such as canned goods, pasta, rice and beans in a visible location on their doorstep or by the curb, and uniformed scouts will come by between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to pick up and take them to the drop off location.
Anyone who did not receive a flyer, who would like to donate, can bring their donations to the Fiesta Plaza, at the corner of Highway 12 and Siesta Way, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. where volunteers take donations.
All donations will be provided to FISH to help stock the Christmas baskets the nonprofit provides to the needy in Sonoma. In some years, Sonoma Valley has donated as much as four tons of food during a Scouting for Food drive. Organizers said that they hope to top that goal this year, as the need for assistance keeps growing.
